Belgie colors and an ode to Mod!

I stole the whole Belgium colors to finish off the bar wrap job idea a couple weeks ago for my road bike from my good buddy and fashion leader Mod Savery (thats a long sentence, technically incorrect). I liked it so much that I decided since the Moots was hurting a bit from last CX season i'd take the Belgie theme one step further and add sky blue Deda tape to the mix, little more color than the white i normally run. here's the result. Ibis Demo day and Evening

Rick built this bike for us back in october of 09, i've had it done for a while but never got around to taking some pictures of it, and truth be told still haven't, but until then, these two crummy photos from my phone will have to do. This bike rides nice, and for an all steel cx rig with 32 hole King wheels comes in at 19lbs, not to shabby, althoug it'll probably go up just a smidge in weight when the right DuraAce STI shifter geets installed. This Hunter happens to be a tig'd bike, but you can have yours anyway you'd like as long as it's tig'd or fillet-brazed.

Signal Cycles light duty 29" city bike for NAHBS 2010

My good friend Nate Meschke and his partner Matt Cardinal from Signal Cycles built this amazing bike for me around a vintage m730 XT parts kit and some WTB grease gaurd bits. They also took it to the North American Handbuilt Bikeshow two weekends ago in Richmond Virginia. Nate and I use to work together here in lincoln at the old Bike Pedalers. He then moved on to Portland with his wife Emily. Three years ago he and Matt Cardinal decided they needed to put their creative hats together and build some frames. They had asked me if i'd like to supply a parts kit for a show bike and hoped that it would be of the vintage MTB variety, and i was more than happy to help. I think that the finished product turned out pretty amazing! i can't wait to ride it, after i take of the slicks and put on some skinny 29" knobbies! Chris King himself even stopped by the booth to check out some of his old handiwork with the WTB/King headset. I definetly suggest that if you're in the market for a beautiful handbuilt lugged or fillet brazed frame, you check out www.signalcycles.com and see what Nate and Matt can come up with for you! New Avid Ultimate CX cantis

While attending QBP's annual Frostbike open house this past weekend, i stumbled across these two examples of the Avid's new CX canti's. They are both the new Shorty Ultimates, just in wide version and low profile for the rear use. They both look and felt quite good. i like the fact that they use V/brake style hardware instead of post style pads, and they seem to have good mud clearance with a lot of lever travel. The brake fixing hardware was very reminiscent of the old Avid TriAlign II series which was super nice. anyhow, thought some of you might be interested in this as it signals Avids return to a higher end CX cantilever as really the shorty series was not that.

2010 Salsa Vaya In Stock at the MWC!

Salsa has really done a great job in the last couple of years at building bikes meant to be ridden. They sure are filling the gaps with some really cool bikes. The Vaya is your do everything road/CX/touring rig. they mated the dropouts of the Fargo to the rear of this bike, so you've got a whole slew of eyelets for fenders and racks, not to mention the super cool chainstay mounted disc brake, out of the way. It's got a mix of Tiagra and Lx, and with the super metallic brown paint, a set of Brown Chris King hubset and Headset would look top notch. It runs 37mm wide conti touring ride tires at the moment with enough clearance for fenders and up to 45/47 without fenders. stop by MWC lincoln's only Salsa dealer and check them out! Also keep an eye out for the Ti salsa's showig up in a couple of weeks!

i saw a video the other day on someones blog about the fixie kids finding out about cyclocross. The video was super funny and very true as far as where i'm sitting. We've had a lot of kids that were/are into the fixed thing in the shop the past two months quizing me about CX.

I thought the video really was funny, but really, i think it's a good thing that the kids are finding CX, it's the most fun racing ever, and we can always use more people at the races, new faces, people trying to get into it and figure this thing out. Hopefully it will stick with them and they'll get into it for the long haul and progress, try and move up in the ranks. i'm all for anyone trying CX out and getting stoked on it, it's definetly the most fun race scene going, and always the most welcoming.

So, i say, bring it on, the more people involved in the cx scene the better, plus i'd way rather work on CX bikes at the shop than fixies! (not that i don't like working on those, just saying, cx bikes are the stuff).

The new Ibis CX bike waiting to get into the mix this year with the trusty Moots. Both bikes measure out the same and are setup fairly similar, for now though, the Ibis is running a 1/10 Dura Ace setup and the Moots has a traditional Dura Ace double cross setup 46/39 x 10 out back, this may change soon. I suppose it would make the most sense to have the Moots be setup with the 1/10 so it could handle the mud duty and run the double on the ibis for a drie setup, i'd way rather clean the Moots after a filthy race as the Titanium can take it. more to follow as i get more time on the bike and after the race wheels have arrived, thanks to Molly Cameron for the new Edge tubular wheels.

The MootoX got a redo for the race season this
year. Off went the XT components, which were
a mix of old and new, and on went the XTR bits,
thanks to clarke and joel for the cranks. The biggest
change this year are the American Classic Disc 29"
wheels, they are LIGHT, thanks especially to Jeremy
Quijano for sure. The weight of the sled went from
25lbs13ounces to 23lbs11ounces. yay. the only
bummer is that i'm still going to get it handed to
me in the Cat 1/expert class. dang.

Finished this Moots MootoX just in time for
MWC factory racer Jesse Petersen to head
off to Moab, and live it up for his last few days
as a single man. Yup, it's his bachelor trip/party
and last time he'll ride off road in the mecca of
off road riding as a single fellow. We built this
bike up with some of the old, and some of the
new, either way it's a pound lighter than his
previous 29" bike with some of the same bits.

Had a suprise today at the shop. Our friend Ty
brought in the first hunter we sold back in the
2005. Ty ordered the bike, and a couple of
months later Rick was here for the Pure
Sweet Hell screening and the two got a chance
to meet. It's a 29" singlespeed with some 42c tires
and fenders at the moment. It's my size, which
makes it that much more fun to tune.!

This is a bike i always thought i could ignore...
until i rode one of jeff's, then i was hooked.
The ride of this thing is unlike any of the 29"
bikes that i have ridden, it just plain rips. The
ride is most certainly easiest to understand by
taking a spin on the bike. So, if you see me on
a ride or would like to set up some time to try
out the Jones, just give the shop a call, ask for
me, nate, and we'll work it out. Then, you dig
hard into your wallet, find the money you
haven't spent yet, and we'll get you set up.

This is the bike that started it all for me, first 29" wheeled bike, first SS, and really the reason i
got fired up on bikes again. I road and raced the bajeez out of this bike, in a million different
setups. it needed a little repair work this winter so Steve Potts did some reworking and blam, we're back in action. Type II fork up front for some forking action, and some WTB dirtdrops
returned to me from a long time ago lady friend, with custom salsa stem and the bike has
never been more fun to ride. I really enjoy it when you get to change your theory on a bike
and see what the changes bring out in a bike you've ridden a lot.
